The Mentee Experience

What Mentees Receive:

  • Consistent supportive connection with a hand-selected ViaMar alumni mentor; someone who understands recovery first-hand

  • Weekly check-ins (email/text); Monthly phone or video check-ins (minimum)

  • A nonjudgemental space to talk about challenges and successes

  • Encouragement to stay connected with recovery supports and the ViaMar alumni community

  • Support and accountability as you work towards your recovery goals

  • Access to provider referrals, support groups, and additional recovery resource

  • Upon completion of 6 month mentee program, an option to apply to become a mentor

***Think of your mentor as a supportive peer, not a therapist***

ViaMar Alumni Mentors provide peer guidance and personal encouragement; not professional therapy or crisis support.  Contact your outpatient team, text 988, or go to a local emergency room in a crisis situation.

Support Might Look Like:

  • Staying connected to outpatient providers and recovery supports

  • Transitioning home from treatment

  • Balancing work/life/school

  • Body image/food/recovery challenges

  • Building your identity out of your eating disorder

  • Accountability with your treatment goals

  • Having someone to talk to who understands recovery

**You are expected to take an active role by communicating your needs, helping guide conversations, and working with your mentor toward your goals
